Why are these shorts happening?

I cry inside each time I see a young girl wearing these high-waisted shorts. I cry on the outside when I see a grown woman in them. Nothing about these shorts is flattering. NOTHING.

It's not that I can't appreciate a trend, or that I think denim shorts are ridiculously uncomfortable (I do) - it's simply because I hate the way they take a girl/woman's figure and cut it off in odd places.

They look like old, torn-up, denim granny panties.

Stop.
